The Resilient Canon
Volume I: Foundations
Software builds systems. Libraries build civilizations.
The Resilient Canon is the constitutional literature of an emerging civic philosophy. It is not product documentation, and it is not marketing. It is the foundational body of work that communities, practitioners, researchers, and civic leaders can return to — not because it is finished, but because it is true.
What the Canon Is
Seven publications form Volume I. Read together, they answer where this work came from, what it believes, how it is practiced, and how communities can hold information, build capacity, and coordinate around shared purpose.
They can be read in any order. They tell one story best from beginning to end.
The Seven Publications
Each publication answers a question no other publication answers. The arc moves from origin to coordination.
I · Origin · Constitutional
Founder's Statement →Why does this work exist?
II · Belief · Constitutional
The Resilient Philosophy →What do we believe?
III · Lineage · Constitutional
Those Who Shaped This Work →Where did these ideas come from?
IV · Practice · Framework
Community Practice →How should practitioners work?
V · Stewardship · Constitutional
Data Stewardship →How should communities govern information?
VI · Capacity · White Paper · Part I
Community Capacity →What makes communities stronger?
VII · Coordination · White Paper · Part II
Community Operating Systems →How do communities coordinate around shared purpose?
How They Relate
Four constitutional publications establish enduring principles — the Founder's Statement, the Philosophy, Those Who Shaped This Work, and Data Stewardship. One framework teaches practice — Community Practice. Two white papers make the long-form argument — Community Capacity and its sequel, Community Operating Systems.
Constitution, practice, and argument — one body of work.
This is Volume I of a continuing series. The Canon will grow as the work deepens — through practitioners who test these ideas, researchers who study them, and communities who live them.
